I knew I wanted to create an old stone trim sheet so I started looking at reference of churches and old stone ruins. Doing this really helped me identify what kind of damage I wanted to add to my trim sheet.

I started by building the base mesh in 3ds max, making sure that the trim sheet was exactly 1x1 meters. This saved a lot of headaches later down the line.

Once the base mesh was finished, I imported it into Zbrush to begin the sculpting phase. I used a combination of alphas and my own techniques for the weathering of the stone.

Before going to Substance, I imported the finished sculpt back into 3ds max and created a single poly plane; ensuring that the plane was the exact same size as the trim sheet. I also assigned colours to vertex groups to make life easier.

I imported my high and low resolution trim sheets into Substance Painter, this was where I baked the mesh maps from my high resolution sculpt to my low poly plane.

I then added some dirt and moss to the trim sheet, not too much that the tiling would be easy to notice, but enough that I wouldn't have to add more dirt and moss with decals later. I tiled the mesh to check that the tiling wasn't too noticeable.

With the final touches added in Substance, the trim sheet was complete. Here is my forgotten shrine mesh with the trim sheet material applied to it.

A trim sheet that I made for an old ruin in my Forgotten Shrine environment as well as the process I went through to make it.
